Emmrod our development continues
As always we are looking fior new ways to improve the Emmrod and it's fishability. Here is a shot of what might be coming in 2011. This was a successful test and an introduction to Qualia reels MUL 10 a saltwater rated spincast reel. One of the best I've used and one heck of a performer. This seatrout by the way was part of our delightful meal from a few nights ago.

Redfish snack food
When kayak fishing for redfish you come upon these little guys at every tide change trying to keep out of the way of hungry fish. They can cover a section of beach with numbers enough you can hear them moving, thousands of them at times. Little crabs make a great bait or you can use a soft plastic version.

Seatrout dinner
Here is a happy picture. An Emmrod caught dinner of mango salsa seatrout over yellow rice. Just look at this and let your mouth water. It was every bit as good as it looks. Courtesy of a gentleman from Lake City Florida who always puts me on the fish. His wife did the honors in the kitchen last night and there were a bunch of happy anglers from the start to finish of this meal.

Checking out a new reel for kayak fishing
We need tough durable gear for kayak fishing. Stuff that holds up and won't fail when we have a big fish on the line. I've just started working with a fairly new line of reels from Qualia, a firm located in California. The founders have been in the tackle buiness for years making reels for other firms. But now they have their own brand too and they are well thought out angler tools for catching big fish. The first reel is the NLF 30 spinning reel designed for inshore use and it's braid ready too. This little trout is my first catch on it, of course that's when you get a little one. There will be more to come.

Working while kayak fishing
Sometimes you have to work on the water. Just the pleasure of running a tackle business but you always have to be prepared to talk to folks. This is my working gear in my fishing kayak, a phone with it's waterproof case, a good pen and a Rite in the Rain notebook.

Kayak fishing with an Emmrod and the Wavewalk
Got a few hours this morning for a bit of kayak fishing. Wish it had been like this on Saturday for the Classic but that's the way the fish play. Topwater hits were one after another, the reds and jacks were tight to the oyster bars and just creamed my plugs. This fellow was the first red of the day and put up one heck of a fight in close quarters, loads of fun! The Emmrods are just the ticket for this type of fast paced action.

Emmrod and Wavewalk at the 2010 Jax Kayak Classic
This year the event as it always has been was bigger than the last. Kayak fishing continues to grow and it's apparent folks just love the sport. We had a blast and I even got to practice my guiding skills a bit. The Emmrods continue to gather a following amoung serious anglers as more and more people discover them. We had lots of intrest in our booth for the rods and our new flashlight offerings from First Light.

Original Emmrod long two tip from 2008
I had a few questions about how Emmrods were developed. Here is a shot taken in June of 2008 of the first operational Rugged Flex two tip. Nice setup and it's even better now. We increased the overload power with a heavier slightly higher second spring. This rig is fun with topwaters, soft jerk baits, and for Redfish Magic style lures like the one that caught this nice smallmouth.

Kayak Fishing Classic
In just a few short years the Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Classic has become the largest kayak fishing tournament in the world.. The particulars are on the website so going into them here would not be required. I will of course be using what I consider the greatest fishing kayak made, the W500. My rods without question of course the Emmrod styles I enjoy so much.
