JeffsTackleBox Emmrod CQC for spinning

I had a few questions presented to us about the Emmrod CQC for spinning.  Here is a setup using the new fishing rod on a Packrod handle.  For fishing from my favorite fishing kayak is it just fantastic and fits right into the rugged go anywhere anytime atttude of the whole outfit.  The casting distance is decent and the control of big fish is virtually unmatched with anything in a tubular rod and certainly no where close to as compact.  I love compact gear that reallty works well and this piece of equipment is one of those that hits the mark.  The reel is a Qualia NLF 30 and in it's size range nothing in a spinning reel can match the power to handle the fish we all want to catch.  This little rig I would put up against a huge redfish or a trophy musky up north with no worries.

Gander Mountain and Jeffs Tackle Box today 2-25-11

Heck a nice time today.  We had our fishing rods at Gander Mountain from 9AM till 5PM.  Folks just love coming by and taking a look at the Emmrods.  A number of them went home to build happy memories on the water with anglers of all ages.  As always a number of the kayak fishing crowd showed up and there was lots of talk of big fish and the plastic navy we all belong to.  I  hope the folks who buy the Emmrods will remember to send a few pictures over of their catches.  It's so exciting to see the smiles on their faces holding a really nice catch nailed on an Emmrod.  The new models were well received I think we now have an even better lineup than before.  March 12th and 13th we will be at the Florida Sportsman's Show in Jacksonville so this was a nice warm up event.

Jeff and Emmrod CQC on the water

Had a litlte tme to get on the water yesterday with the new rod this Emmrod CQC is really something.  Casting distance and control is wonderful plus the rod is just super for topwater lures like spooks or poppers.  I had a blast casting it all over the place into pockets near brush and down narrow creeks. For kayak fishing no fishing rod out there is so handy and so tough.  For this ssession I had it rigged with a Shimano 300D casting reel loaded with 20lb Fireline with a short section of 20lb mono or fluorocarbon leader material.  Now I need some huge fish to cooperate and blow one of my big topwaters right off the surface for a battle royal.

Another powerhouse Emmrod CQC rig from Jeff's Tackle Box

I was playing around with a rig for heavy pulling big fish out of a kayak.  I love my little metal fishing rods so here is yet another way to play with our Emmrod CQC rod.  I've been working with adding a Shimano 300D series Curado which is a big fish beater when it comes to low profile bait cast reels.  This one is loaded with box rated 20lb Fireline and can carry a short section of heavy mono as a leader.  Should be wonderful for big fish who want to just tear a plug off the surface.  A soon to come fishing day with a very busy adult daughter will be a great time for a trial on the water.

Powerful but tiny fishing rods from Emmrod

Wanted to put up a couple of more shots of the CQC Emmrods we will have here at my place. As far as powerful fishing rods these are unreal.  I think what has been created is yet another totally new fishing system from the folks at Emmrod.  Not for beginners but for those willing to learn to use a baitcast reel, WOW is all I can say at the moment.  Super little rods and loads of fun too.  For kayak fishing you are well armed for battle with the big ones.

206 bridge was freezing cold last weekend

Wow, don't think I've been that cold kayak fishing in some time.  My hands and feet were numb and fishing was tough not being able to feel anything.  The day was suppose to warm up but the air chilled you to the bone.  Oh well at least I got to test out the new fishing poles and reels, from Emmrod and Qualia.  The new Universal rods are just wonderful and that DM-40 reel from Qualia is a nice casting setup.  On the Packer handle you've got an outfit that could land a tarpon.  I just have to get some in range to try it out.

Answering questions about the new Emmrods and that huge Qualia reel

To answer a few questions I've been getting.  The DM-40 reel is almost the same reel as the Muzzy bow fishing reel both are made by Qualia.  The main difference being the Muzzy has a stainless steel reel foot and the DM-40 has a nylon foot that is part of the frame.  Both are bull tough.  I strip off the 20lb mono they come with and replace it with fresh line.  This practice is always good with reels that come with line since the age of it and being tightly coiled for so long prevents the reel from performing as it should.  The reels have a gear ratio of around 3.4 to 1 but the spools are huge and the rate of retreve is more like an ABU Garica 5500C.  So far as the Emmrod question the Universal rods are currently 7 coil for the standard 14 inch size and 6 coil for the Topwater Special at 22 inches.  In testing early on we fouund the longer rod performed better at 6 coil count.  The semi custom CQC rod at 6 inches is 7 coil.  I plan on next testing the DM-40 with Fireline, right now for the initial fishing I'm doing it's loaded with 16 Momoi High Catch.  My thought is use the reel as a true heavy baitcast replacement much in the way spincast reels were first designed.  I've got a year of use now on the MuL 10 Qualia most of the time with 14lb Fireline and have been very happy with it.  Cost wise the MuL 10 is around 30 dollars and the DM-40 about 46 dollars.  I like the fact that for little cost compared to many reels these two are champs at handling big fish.  The attached photo gives you a better idea of the size of the DM-40, it's big but quite comfortable.   Can't wait to get this thing hooked up a big redfish from my fishing kayak the mighty W500.

Spincast beast from Jeff's Tackle Box

This is the new Universal Rod from Emmrod.  It's mounted on the Packer handle and sporting a Qualia DM 40 reel.  This is a massive reel and combined with a fishing rod like this it's a big fish handler supreme.  Out of my fishing kayak the W500 from Wavewalk it can handle anything I might want to do battle with.  I'll be spooling it with 16lb Momoi for casting distance, using topwater lures it should be a blast.  One interesting feature of the reel is the retreval speed.  The spool is so large it rivals some midrange bait cast reels.  More pictures to come of the new rigs as we set them up.  Oh yeah catch us at the Florida Sportmans Show in Jacksonville coming in March 2011.
